Weisman still has his unpublished script for the comic, and would eventually use it as issue #6 of Gargoyles SLG comic. Weisman was eventually hired to write for the comic, but Marvel cut the deal with Disney before his run could be produced. Greg Weisman, television series co-creator, did not have any direct involvement in the story development of the comic series, but was consulted on some plot points to be sure it stayed within certain boundaries. The Marvel series was tonally darker than the television series, dealing largely with Xanatos' experiments to create creatures and machines to defeat the Gargoyles. The books did not directly follow the continuity of the series, but they did reference specific events that took place within it. A 12th issue, to be entitled "The Day the Sun Kissed the Earth!!" was announced at the end of Issue 11, but never published. Select issues will be re-released (in addition to the entire run "remastered and compiled" into trade paperback) by Dynamite Entertainment in 2022.In 1995, Marvel Comics issued a Gargoyles comic book series which ran for 11 issues. Beth Maza also appeared in " Always Darkest Before Dawn", the third issue of the comic, before being properly introduced in the TV series, although a picture of her had previously appeared in the episode " Deadly Force". Petros Xanatos made his earliest appearance in " The Pack Attacks", the seventh issue of the series, before his first real appearance in the TV series in the episode " Vows". An unpublished script written by Weisman for the comic was later adapted into " Reunion", the sixth issue of the Gargoyles comic from Slave Labor Graphics. Greg Weisman was hired to pen a story arc for the comic book, but Marvel filed for bankruptcy and cancelled the series before it was published. The books referenced events from the first season, but did not follow the continuity of the series and are not considered canon by creator Greg Weisman.Įleven issues were produced.
